Two years ago I took on a special project for my LifeSkills Classroom. I wanted to do something that would make difference in my students lives. I teach “Life Skills” so I wanted to add something to my room that would really help my students live a life that would be manageable for them. I had asked the school district numerous times to put a kitchen in my classroom and they were not able to do it. After the 3rd or 4th attempt, I took it upon myself to make a difference. I began contacting local businesses to inquire about them donating to my room to help me teach the Life Skills that my students would benefit from.
In the end, Lowes was not only willing to donate all of the appliances that I needed, but they also had volunteer employees from the local store come and paint my room and install the kitchen cabinets. 84 Lumber was also a wonderful local business that donated to this great cause. They donated all of the counter tops as well as the sink and faucet. The last business that made a wonderful donation was ABC Schoohouse. They donated all of the kitchen cabinets that were needed in the classroom. I would not have been able to complete this project without the wonderful support that I received from the local businesses that made donations.
Below is a link to the story that was run in our local newspaper about the project:
